Distributed computing plays an important role in improving resource utilization in modern computing systems. WinLink is a secure, Windows-based distributed computing platform that enables efficient task distribution and resource sharing among multiple personal computers over a local network. The system follows a master–worker architecture, where the master node manages task creation, scheduling, and monitoring, while worker nodes execute tasks within defined resource limits.
WinLink allows users to utilize idle computing power for tasks such as data processing and parallel Python execution. The platform ensures secure communication using SSL/TLS encryption and token-based authentication, along with process isolation and CPU and memory constraints for safe execution. Optional containerization using Docker further enhances task isolation.
The system provides real-time task monitoring, resource usage tracking, and execution logs through a user-friendly graphical interface. With features such as automatic worker discovery and reliable communication, WinLink offers a practical and scalable solution for distributed computing on Windows platforms without the need for complex cluster infrastructure.
